You all are alot better Radio station than Wivk. You all don't play the same songs over and over all day. I could just about set my watch to their music . I would like to see more on your home page like Dj's pictures and maybe Bio's. Other than that you are great.

I noticed comments from 1/22/07 and 2/1/07. Somebody kinda missed it, huh!?! It was probably comment from somebody at that other radio station. Trying to deter growth. So negative! Ain't gonna work!

I like the way you mix old country with new country 70's & 80's rock, bluegrass, an occasional gospel song. I agree with Bonnie, listening to the Statler Brothers or The Gatlin Brothers singing Gospel on Sunday mornings would be great.

I like the old country music you play. I have just one negative comment for you, You guys are constantly putting down the other big fm station. It sounds like a bunch of politicians, and I have heard them till I am sick of polotics. Play your music and leave the other station to do their thing. I like merele but if the constant mud slinging keeps going on I will go back to the frog.

We are the truck drivers from IA. We drive through Knoxville at least twice per week. I absolutely love your station. I just wish we could get it for more miles. I wish other stations around the country played the kind of variety you guys do. It sure would make the miles fly by much more quickly! Thanks for the wonderful music.

What has happened to the sound on Merle? It sounds like it is playing on the internet and not in stereo! I think you got a good thing going but the past few days the sound is awful. I support anyone in competition with W--K!

I just wanted to thank you for giving the Knoxville area a better alternative to WIVK.  The frog got too big for his britches.  I feel like WIVK thinks it can dictate the thinking of the East TN people by its programs and its DJ's, but their arrogance has turned me off.  They only play what they want to hear, which lately tends to be pop music from new artists rather than traditional country.
Merle, on the other hand, plays the "good old songs."  The first preset station in my car will always be Merle.  You play the stuff we grew up on, and you play more of it.  I can't thank you enough for that.

I absolutely love this radio station. It is all I listen to in my car. WIVK is good and all but they just talk WAY too much and they play the same songs over and over again. I never hear a song twice in the same day. I love you guys keep it up!!!'

I did not know there was another country station in Knoxville. I  switched to XM because I was tired of all the talking. I drove all the way home and heard nothing but music. I Love it. Glad you came to Knoxville.

New and innovative Country Music is Merle FM and prime example as in Gretchen Wilson's song, "When I think about cheat'in." Classic TOTAL COUNTRY at the most elite.

 » Teseskee (Strawberry Plains, TN)
Waynr Morgan, slow down and take a chill pill. This a new beginning of past, present and future Country Music at it's finest. I am from Tennessee, your are in Tennessee and Elvis was in Tennessee. This station IS TOTAL COUNTRY and it ain't froggy, although, I do like to watch their legs hop around in the skillet when they are fried lol. If you don't like Elvis turn down the volume for a few seconds cause this station has a purpose and is serving alot of ET Hillbillies. Peace to you and yours Mr. Morgan

January 16, 2008 10:28 AM
 » Chris (Clinton, TN)
I just LOVE this station! I tell everyone I know to listen to it. Keep it up and continue to play the classics as well as the new stuff - great combination! Play more Conway and forget the guys comment about Elvis -- we still love to hear the King!

January 15, 2008 9:24 PM
 » Waynr Morgan (Rutledge, TN)
Hi, I;m a traditional country music nut. I listen to 97.6 and love the most of the music you play, but elvis is not total country and the other rock music you play doesn't make up a total country station that you claim to be,,,,,so make it total or quit advertising it. thanks,,Wayne

Merle FM is bringing history of True Country alive again. After all, where does one know where they are going unless they know where they come from? When I hear Eddie Arnold music I hear bass fiddle music by Roy Junior Huskey (from Knoxville TN) who also played in the Knoxville, MIDDAY MERRYGO'ROUND. Roy Huskey Jr./ his son also played bass fiddel for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. You'all prov'in it for me! When it comes to Country Music, I feel MERLE FM is absolute and that every note/tune, every word, thought/past,present and future feelings and expressions are TOTAL!

» Frank Bolin (3400 Blue Springs Rd, Strawberry Plains TN 37871)
I wrote and asked if you guys were playing the Dixie Chicks music. I got no reply but however, yesterday I heard a song of theirs. I was so glad to hear it because Merle FM is not bigot green wanna be GOPigs. In my opinion, Merle FM is total country radio at the best! A way to improve it is to play less Toby Keith and more Dixie Chicks. Peace to you and yours

For those saying "You'll never beat WIVK. Give up and go Hispanic," I say "isn't it great that someone is taking a chance and taking them on? What would you rather have? Another country choice or a station that plays to illegal Mexicans in a language you can't understand?

I am 54 and have been enjoying you 96.7 station so much. I know your task is large but, you guys are seriously competing with the reptile beings. I have been listening to your station. I think you'all can present the unbiased ice'n on the cake for TOTAL COUNTRY as you clame East Tennessee. I want to know if you guys are boycotting the Dixie Chicks. I never hear them on your station. I understand that the FTK tee shirt Nataily had on (and she along with the DIXIE CHICKS sure looked BOLD AND PROUD to be an AMERICAN, the start of a fude. However, if you guys reject the Dixie Chick's music just because THE BOLD LADIES stood up for the same thing finally 75% of Americans feel the same now. Most people wear sneakers now. I wear NEW BALANCE -American Made. Peace to you and yours and correct me if I am wrong with an E-Mail or my phone # is 465-3115. Gunner is a wanna be cowboy. I have horses too. I got a 5 gated racking show horse that you can drink a cup of coffee while in his 3rd. gate in an arena. gunr, colenne and wivk are tooo political involved with Georgia Cracker like travis trit.

It gives me great joy to hear that MY radio station is still on the air! And flourishing no less! Keep up the good work, Merle; keep playing all those benchmark artists of yesteryear that are the foundation of today's country/bluegrass musical genres! I will always support any station that is against WIVK; they are no longer in touch with the larger group of country music listeners in East Tennessee. Thanks for this opportunity to comment!

OK. I have all good things to say about Merle ... BUT You keep promoting how Country music is all about Patriotism, then you go and play the Chicks  ... I mean the Dixie Chicks!! They were banned from the Opry for a reason. Please don't play them anymore. They have no talent and they have no business being played on a respectable station like Merle, after what they said about the President, the War, and Toby Keith. Country Music singers don't bash one another. They band together and support each other. Oh and when you can them, please play "Mississippi Squirrel Revival" by Ray Stevens

Its great to have a country station that plays a good mix of music, I been listening to wivk for years, but i am so tired of the same songs over and over. You guys have dug out music i grew up with and mixed it with todays hits. Keep it up. As to those that think they are short lived, kiss it. Lots of us are fed up with wivk. And we all know how they hate to have competition, they just buy everyone out. Well we have a choice now and you underestimate the listeners. Go Merle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Merle 96.7 FM plays all my favorite songs. These songs bring back memories that are very dear to my heart. Merle has its own identity. Merle has a unique quality about the songs they play. They don't play the same songs over & over :) They play the Country Legends & I grew up on them songs. Congratulations to Merle 96.7 I salute you! Listeners Don't forget to tune your dial to 96.7 for "Real Country" without all the unnecessary chatter.

Merle listeners...... Come on get with a winner the frog will always rule. New artists are much better than the washed up oldies you play. I bet you listeners are all old. Hey, bottom line the frog has more money and that what is it about. Who cares about the old washed up George Jones. Frog dont play em, and dont have to and they are still number 1. So Merle join the real world with the people with taste and class. Get rid of the washed up Willie Waylon wish I was drunk crap. Play a little more new stuff and maybe you can copy enough of the frog to get into the top 10. So write all you want Merle listeners, there will never be enough people listening to Merle to even come close to the frog.So deal with it..You and your listeners are wanna be s .

I love Merle, tall actually play country music not that pop country. I have called in for a week straight to WIVK to get hem to play some Chris Laduex "Copenhagen" and some Hank Williams "Lost Highway" and they still refuse to play such classics. Those songs are the ones that really put their station on the map and they refuse them and turn their back on them. I say lets all go eat some frog legs and continue to enjoy the great station that is Merle.

Yours is, without question, the most enjoyable country music station I have ever listened too! Although I receive my mail in Vancouver, WA, I am engaged in an extended tour of the US in my (very small) motor home. Finding decent country music can be a real challenge, so I was absolutely delighted to find you while staying in the Knoxville area. I loathe the supposed country music stations that play only the "current favorites," load their programming with an unbelievable amount of advertising, and bombard me with more bombast than music on their "morning personality" shows. Thank you for having the courage to be different, and true to the music. Keep up the good work.

Hey Russ...you seem to know alot about Merle. Even with the signal I find it telling that even you are still listening to them. Programming-wise the station is ok, but the signal is a complete joke. I know it's a small signal station, but could you not locate the transmitter in a better location. I sure hope you aren't counting on any lisnteners in the big growing areas of town (West Knoxville, Farragut, Lenoir City, etc.), because the signal is almost non-existent on the west end of town. It's interesting to see what another station can do to hurt 'IVK a bit, but as I said, this is by far the worst signal of any of the small class A rimshot signals covering Knoxville. Also, I think a pure classic country format (like "the Legend" in Chattanooga), would be a better choice than the mix of old and new. But anyway, should be interesting to see if Merle can take more than a 1 share out of 'IVK's ratings. If it were a better signal, I'd say yes, but as it is, with virtually no signal to the west, I highly doubt it.

quote from your website - "A great deal of time, planning and energy has gone into making Merle the most listened to radio station in Knoxville. We are well on our way to accomplishing that goal." Try getting a big boy signal first before you even dream of being in the top five

Great mix of country music from the early days to the current. You are doing a much needed service to this area. WIVK (no prince is Andy) is politically partisian and narrow minder. If you discuss politics keep it bipartisian and relevent as opposed to denegrating those with other thoughts, opinions, positions etc.

To TLW (Terry West in White Oak,TN) Are you wanting Merle to hire you? From your posts it sure looks that way. Please don't insult Merle by comparing them to the 50 yard transmitting stations you worked at for 30 years and by downing who they play (Your reference to the Dixie Chicks). To Merle: Thanks for playing the "Dixie Quacks" as TLW called them. TLW's post about not listening to them should give you a good indication that with him at the DJ wheel our variety would dwindle. Sorry to turn this into a rant but I had to let you know that the Dixie Chicks are still listened to and appreciated by many, and to thank you for playing them, along with all the other countless, controversial, timeless classics that you play. When I hear a song I don't care to hear, I just tune you out of my head, not out of my radio.

Hey Mr. Testerman...as a former, nearly 30 year on-air broadcaster in southern Kentucky and east Tennessee, I've been listening to Merle and I think they've got a great morning personality and a super over all sound. Not super flashy and over slick...just straight to the point. I like it and I'm sure a lot other people do too. I'm not trying to offend you, but Merle's personality's do exactly what I tried to do on the air for nearly 30 years.

Great station, Love that you have the Merle Girl and traffic reports in the morning. When you travel from LaFollette to Knox. in the morning for work thats all you need,"MERLE" {wonder what she looks like} lol How about playing some Chris LaDoux, I'm sure theres some ol'e rodeo fans out there that remember him. Songs like "Stampede" or "Silence on the Line" ~ Thanks

Hey guys..My name is Ron Meredith.I own WMYL , Merle 96.7 FM. To all of you that are truly enjoying what I am trying to do with Merle THANK YOU and keep telling your friends. As you can see from reading this guest book Merle FM is scaring the established Knoxville radio stations. Bottom line, if you like what Im doing listen to me. If you dont like what Im doing.. listen to WIVK or someone else. But Merle FM is here to stay... By the way if you like news and a bunch of talk.. please try my AM station WYSH 1380 www.WYSHradio.com. To all of you that have called, emailed ,and reported Merle as your favorite station.. Thank you!! Let me know what you like and what you dont and I will try to fix all that I can. I am small, and we are a Tennessee owned company operated by and with family. We can make changes and I dont have to call Las Vegas, or Milwaukee.

Unfortunatley i live in the the burbs. I was raised on this type of music in New Hampshire. Yes there are rednecks in New England. Please stay on the air and great job. Earl and Aaron obviously like bubble gum country.

How can you compare WIVK to Home Depot and Merle to your local hardware store. WIVK is East Tennessee, your local station. When the wildfire was raging in Sevier County Wednesday night, dispatchers called WIVK. One police commander went on the air and said they were telling people in the community to listen to WIVK for all the latest breaking updates, because they were depending on that station to pass the info along to its mass listening audience. Go to Marketing 101, and quit bashing WIVK. If you really want to get ahead, [and I'm all about alternative choices (I like older country myself)], promote what you are offering, don't bash the competitor out of jealousy.

 » TJ (East Tennessee)
I'm loving some of these planted posts. For instance, your signal is very weak in Newport (heck even South Knoxville for that matter), and Newport has it's own country FM station that has local news, weather, etc., and they play a good mix of the old stuff. I'm just curious why someone in Newport would struggle to listen to "Merle" when it is just as easy to listen to their hometown station or WIVK or WXBQ (two bigger signals). Plus the gentleman mentions traffic and weather...why would anybody in Newport care about Knoxville traffic. Love the fake posts, keep 'em coming.

 » bob (Knoxville)
WIVK is still my number 1 choice, but I think I can add Merle to one of my presets...like some of the older(but not too old!)stuff!!...still proud to eat bugs!
March 8, 2007 10:08 AM
 » Chad (Oak Ridge)
I haven't listened to WIVK since you came on the air and i found you by accident. Couldn't believe this was a radio station because the music just keeps coming. The mix is awesome, old, ancient, new, in between. A little more bluegrass sprinkled in would be good. Its great to turn on the radio and know you can count on music instead of blabber mouths. Comparing Merle to WIVK is like the old hardware store compared to Home Depot. You might not have the power of a big box but you know what your local customers want and need. Thank you for being there.

Hey! We were traveling through and caught this station on the scan. Wed have you plugged in at home now. If you ever leave Knoxville please come to North Carolina. We would love to have you here! Tennessee should be proud to have you. Glad you are online though, and the morning DJ gal is pleasant to hear as well. And most importantly, your station is better than the classic satellite stations on xm and sirrus. Thanks for being there Merle. We love you over here.
March 8, 2007 9:08 AM
 » Wendy (Sharps Chapel)
Love the station but could you play a little more bluegrass??
March 7, 2007 7:07 PM
 » Mike (Knoxville)
Merle, you are changing Knoxville radio. I don't think the folks at the frog like being forced to sprinkle in the old Country that management is forcing them too. And I know they don't like adding JOHN MELLENCAMP to the play list. No offense Merle.. but this would have never happened while Bobby Denton was there. But now the Las Vegas corporation has all but assured you STRONG numbers in the upcoming book. Heck, just check with any "former" arbitron employee you might find working in this market. They can tell you the same. So you may do well, as you have filled a hole left in Knoxville when local owners sold out to corporate greed.

As the last of Knoxville's true Rock & Roll DJs I thought that pure, raw radio in this town was dead and buried but then I found Merle, which actually acknowledges the fact that some artists (i.e. CCR, Tom Petty, et al) actually take pride in their country roots and display them for all to see. Without guys like Willie, Merle, Waylon, Cash and Jones we would never have been able to enjoy some of the greats of today like Steve Earle and...well, Willie cuz he's never gonna die! I would love to work for Merle cuz you guys seem to embody what this Rock & Roller stands for: To Serve, Protect and Entertain! Keep up the good work and Power to You, my brothers!

 » Laura (Powell)
I have to say that I am glad there is finally a station in town that has a backbone. It was getting to the point that if I wanted to hear "good" country, I had to pop in a CD. I have always been a WIVK listener when I wanted country (I am a habitual flipper)but it was getting to the point that if they weren't talking, it was only Tim, Faith or Carrie Underwood. Don't get me wrong, they are all great artists, but exactly how many times a day can Jesus take the wheel? It is great to FINALLY get someone with the backbone to finally play REAL country music. It's also great to see that there are 20-somethings out there that are learning that there is more to country than Tim, Faith and Shania. Believe it or not, there were other artists that paved the way for them. I don't think that lack of talk or commercials will hirt this station one bit. There are more than enough billboards along the highways to get in all the advertising needed. I don't need a McDonalds commercial to interrupt my music. Way to go MERLE, keep up the great work!

I travel through Knoxville regularly and used to listen to WIVK. I liked it because they played some songs you didn't hear on other "country" radio stations. I stumbled across your station a couple of weeks ago and I listen to you now when I'm in the area. I love the old real country songs, those recorded before murder was committed on music row(there's a song suggestion). I would like to here some bluegrass added to the mix. It's popularity is increasing and there isn't anywhere I've found that is playing it on a regular basis. I'm adding your site to my favorites menu so my daughter can listen to a good radio station. You're doing a great job! PS:One thing I don't like is your negative comments about WIVK. In my opinion that is being childish. Focus your attention on providing the music that the people want to hear and forget about running down your competition.

If you like REAL variety, you gotta love MERLE. I was a mid-day announcer at WIVK from '70 to '76. Some terrific people there, then, and real music variety. Last year I did some "faux" (home-made)radio shows to CD (for friends up there) under the premise of a station playing 'the good old songs' you won't hear on The Frog. In it I said "Watch out WIVK, we're goin' Frog giggin' ". Sounds like you've got the same idea. Good luck!

Love the radio station. Don't play the same songs as froggy and you all will be alright. If you really wanna be "total country," don't play that pop country crap. Solomon. I did not know the station had put up new billboards. That is my bad. Regarding spelling.. Im not sure what your talking about, and your might want to check your own. You know what they say.. when you point at someone you have 4 pointing back. It is evident that Merle FM is scarring alot of you radio folk. I guess we will all see how they do when the radio station ratings are printed. Either way they play stuff the Frog can't or won't or is not allowed to and I for one listen to Merle.
February 12, 2007 1:12 PM
 » Solomon (Knoxville)
Actually Billy, you need to get out more and see the new billboards that say "We don't eat bugs" (hence my catchy slogan comment) at the top and have MERLE 96.7 I beleive in red, white, and blue. There is one just south of the Henley Street bridge headed towards Seymour if you would like to see it for yourself. Also, don't question my honesty and learn how to spell in the maentime.

February 12, 2007 11:12 AM
 » Billy (Knoxville)
Solomon, You must not have listened long.... I heard Merle Haggard, George Jones and Randy Travis. The Frog plays non of them. Also..I have a feeling your not being honest. The Billboards only say "dont listen" therefore you would not have known the station was named Merle just from the billboards.
February 11, 2007 7:11 PM
 » Solomon (Knoxville)
Is this station a joke? First of all I don't regularly listen to WIVK, mainly listen to XM radio, but saw the billboards around town and decided to flip over there because I thought with a name of "Merle FM" that I would at least hear some of the good old stuff. Clever slogan by the way. But what have I heard? Keith Urban (country? give me a break), Diamond Rio (the late 90s not so good stuff), and Patty Loveless (this is the most country example I have). Then I hear a on air promo and it was the exact same songs that I would hear of WIVK. The same music I can hear of WIVK, putting UT coverage in a negative light, plus their other advertising schemes? Who in the world is the target audience here? Here is a little hint for survival. If you are trying to be the anti-WIVK, then play the songs that they don't play 75% of the time or more and not wait for a request. Otherwise, you will meet the same fate as every other station that has tried to go up against WIVK.....out of business by 2008.

So, Frog... If you weren't nervous you wouldn't have said anything. It's good to hear George Jones again.

Has anyone noticed there is not a guestbook or Blog page on WIVK.... This is why 96.7 is beating them. 96.7 listens to us.... Yesterday I ask for a George Jones song. and Merle played it... I cant tell you how many times I called and ask WIVK to play George..... but they NEVER would... THANK YOU MERLE

I can hear Merle in Anderson COunty where I work, however when I get home in the mountains on Campbell County I can't pick it up. I really love your station. Its the Number 1 preset in the Ambulance, and spending all day in the truck with Merle is a little easier.
